Week #2: Thursday - COLOR PLAY & GERMS

Updated: Apr 2, 2020

I hope you've been saving up your empty toilet paper rolls, because today, we are putting them to great use! Have any Popsicle sticks and felt, go ahead and pulls those out as well. Get ready for some beautiful images.

We will be using more flash cards, but keep in mind, you can always make your own. I reused the solid flash cards and wrote numbers on the reverse side.

Lesson: Numbers & Counting

Theme: COLOR PLAY

Language / Recognizing (listening & responding)

  • Number (Flash Cards - I used the color cards & wrote a # on the back of each)

Gross Motor (coordination, big movements)

  • Mimicking head movements & facial expressions (do this sitting face to face)

Fine Motor (small movements typically w/hands)

  • Popsicle color sorting (count the Popsicle's) - We made these felt pockets and colored the Popsicle sticks using non-washable markers. It should be noted, if you have PAINT you can use, that would be best, as the markers still bled on our hands after it "dried". This was something that even our 5yr old loved to play with, making different shapes on the floor.

Arts & Crafts

  • Fireworks painting project (using empty toilet paper rolls) - As children, they need to be allowed to get messy from time to time. And not to worry, washable paint cleans right up!

Music & Reading (to help give the mind a study break)

  • Free dance

  • Bob the Train (15min)

  • Book about numbers

Crafting Notes:

Fireworks = After cutting slits (about half way up each empty roll), be sure to fan them out so they lay flat in the paint. If you don't have paper plates, you can line a child's plate with tinfoil to make cleanup easier. Also, be sure to keep some baby wipes on hand. ;)

PreK -

Lesson: Writing Skills & Inverse Lower Case Letters

Theme: GERMS

(1st half of week focuses on our hands, 2nd half on our teeth)

Language Arts & Writing

  • Recognizing inverse letters (Flash Cards)

  • Fine Motor

  • Tracing lines (tracing workbook)

Science/Experiments & Math

  • Tooth Number Game - I made this the night prior, and then had Caleigh use Play-Dough to make the teeth as she rolled the dice. She then had to solve the puzzle at the bottom.

Arts & Crafts

  • Name That Tooth art project (using the sheet we painted on Wed.) - We used yarn to make the nerves and glued on the paper crown.

Music & Reading (to help give the mind a study break)

  • Free Dance

  • Story from children's Highlights magazine

Creative Thinking

  • Finding what looks different (worksheet)
