Week #3: Wednesday - Honesty & Friendship, Word Play & Animals

Today, we are continuing with our playtime learning approach. Remember, anytime we do a playful activity, anyone can join in who would like to. And once again, we are recycling empty toilet paper rolls. Every chance you have to save these, be sure to set them aside as we use them quite often.

Toddler -

Lesson: ABC's

Theme: Animals (where they live / sounds they make)

Language / Recognizing (listening & responding)

  • Animals + Sounds (flash cards) - asking, "touch dog, touch cow…", then, "Who says woof, who says moo…"

  • ABC's (flash cards) - start w/ A-G, recite that part of the song as you point to the letters, then ask, "touch A, touch G…"

Gross Motor (coordination, big movements)

  • Big & Small animal sorting - find some tape, or string, or craft paper, and create two mapped out areas on the floor to have them sort the animals by big vs. small

Fine Motor (small movements typically w/hands)

  • ABC Animal puzzle (or animal blocks)

Music & Reading (to help give the mind a study break)

  • Farm animal book

PreK -

Lesson: Word Play + Alphabet Sorting

Theme: Honesty & Friendship

Don't forget our words of the week: Deliberate / Combine

Language Arts & Writing

  • Building Words game (3 letters) - Have them say each letter, sound each letter out, swoosh the sounds to form the word, then build the word. Once Caleigh got through the first word, I was truly amazed at how well she did with this! She highly enjoyed it and was very proud of herself. This can be a mentally exhausting activity for them. So when she was done, I rewarded her with a little treat and some play time.

Fine Motor

  • ABC Bag Sorting - Find some items around the house which start with one of the letters you choose to put on a plastic baggie. Then have them say what the toys are and sort them accordingly.

Music & Reading (to help give the mind a study break)

  • Honesty book (Tell the Truth BB Wolf)

Creative Thinking

  • Support Map - This is something they can't do on their own. They will need some help to think about those whom they are close to, they trust, and where they fall on this map. Discuss with them what it means to trust people and how we can support each other and be a good friend. (Their name goes in the middle)
